Food carts come to town part II

Re-up BBQ
Location: 700 Hornby, west side of art gallery
Hours: 11.30 - 6pm Monday - Friday

In the interest of research, I took my husband (furthermore to be referred to as Neil), on a walking trip around the city today, where we visited 4 more food carts. Neil has a large appetite (in a slim body) and no hesitation in eating carbohydrates, so I knew he would be perfect in helping me get through 4 different meals.

First stop was 'Re-up BBQ', situated just outside the Vancouver Art Gallery, surrounded by offices and businesses. At 12.15pm, there was already a pretty big line-up, which we joined happily while looking over the menu. These guys look like they are just starting up in this business as the trailer was really small and the menu is basically one thing, pulled pork sandwiches, but, already, they really know what they are doing! Neil moaned a little about the 20 minute wait, but he had nothing bad to say about the sandwich.

The pork was succulent but not in the slightest bit greasy or oily, as pulled pork sometimes is. The sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and spiciness, but did not saturate or overwhelm the meat at all. The bread was soft and floury and the coleslaw had the right amount of crispness and crunchiness with not too much mayonnaise.

The overall result was a sandwich that was in no way greasy, heavy, cloying or too wet. It was near perfect. Neil said he would definitely go again, but perhaps a little earlier to beat the lunchtime rush. I overheard the owners commenting that they are going on a research field-trip to Memphis and South Carolina to try to perfect their recipe inspired by the amazing barbecue down in those States. I don't know how much better they can get, this was a really great first taste.
